Energy healing is a holistic practice uses the body’s energy systems to remove blocks in order to activate the body’s ability to heal itself.  Energy healing is not a new concept – various forms of energy healing have been practiced for thousands of years in many cultures around the world.

What are the examples of energy medicine?

Reiki is a likely one of the most well-known forms of energy medicine. It is a technique in which energy that encourages emotional or physical healing is transferred through the palms of the practitioner to the patient. It works by adjusting the energy field of the person receiving the treatment. Reiki has been practiced for thousands of years and is a widely accepted modality. Many hospitals have incorporated Reiki into their integrative medical treatments, making it less of an alternative medicine and more of a regular treatment plan.

Healing touch (or therapeutic touch) is another type of energy medicine. Many nurses are trained in healing touch and will employ it for post-operative recovery to induce deep relaxation. You’ll also see it used with chronic pain or cancer patients. Healing touch has grown in popularity and acceptance within the nursing profession and training programs recently.

Of course, many people are familiar with acupuncture and Qigong or Tai Chi as energy healing practices. These are forms of complimentary medicine in which energy is moved in and around the physical body to clear energetic blockages and restore or maintain balance.

What does quantum healing mean?

Quantum healing is a fairly new form of energy healing. It can seem complicated to some, but essentially, it’s shifting the body’s energy at a subatomic level. In the body – energy is matter so it’s actually shifting matter. Quantum energy healers look at the illness as blockages of energy manifested in the form of matter.

What is an energy healing circle?

Energy healing circles harness the collective power of groups to amplify energy. Commonly, a small group of people will sit together and set an intention for healing or the best possible outcome for a patient. They are not wishing or trying to manifest a cure. They are amplifying the natural ability of the body to heal itself. They hold the patient in a loving vibration, focusing on the intention and directing energy towards the individual and their physical body.

The person of focus by the healing circle only has to receive. They may be seated in the middle of the circle so the energy can best be directed towards and surround them. They serve as the pillar of light and the healers surrounding them hold energy for that person to receive.

How can therapeutic touch or working in someone’s energy field benefit cancer patients?

What any of the different kinds of energy therapies do is balance a person’s energy. Our bodies are incredibly smart. Our bodies know how to heal and send out vibrations of what is wrong. Healing therapies are like an energetic adjustment for the body. Practitioners act as a conduit by bringing in the energetic vibration of the person they’re working with. They connect with Source and it flows through them.

For cancer patients then, a practitioner is able to assess the emotional and physical energetic blocks by tuning into the patient’s energy field around them. They work to shift or manage that energy for the patient. They will not cure the patient. But they will be able to work with the cancer patient’s energetic field to help restore greater balance and provide the body better opportunity for healing.

How do you know if you have a natural ability to heal or for healing touch?

Most people will know intuitively if they have the natural ability to heal and are called to do so. They may receive nudges from their Spirit Guides or universal energies. They instinctively know where and how to lay hands on an ailing or wounded person to direct healing energies towards them and remove negative energy from them.

I believe every person innately has some healing abilities. Some of us are more in tune with it and hear that calling more distinctly than some traditionally accepted career callings. Those people know what they are meant to do, what they want to do, and they go for it.
